Mechanical Engineer II

The Mechanical Engineer II will participate as a member of assigned product design teams and perform mechanical engineering functions in the development of new products and the modification of existing products. This individual is responsible for meeting customer requirements and company internal requirements for mechanical design and integrity of the equipment. He/She will support the technical development of the Mechanical Engineering and Design functions through the evaluation and introduction of new design and analysis capabilities.



  • Analyze and recommend design concepts to meet customer requirements and evaluate design approaches for specification compliance
  • Review, negotiate and accept mechanical portions of product specifications received from customers
  • Perform and document mechanical analysis of assigned designs and assure that customer requirements are met
  • Mentor, direct and supervise efforts of other engineers, designers and drafting personnel on any assigned projects
  • Interface with project engineering, process engineering, and design engineering personnel as required to insure successful product designs
  • Foster spirit of innovative thinking, creativity and development of advanced concepts and technologies for Anaren’s products including efficient and cost effective ways to accomplish program objectives
  • Assure that standard mechanical engineering and Anaren mechanical design standards and practices are complied with on assigned projects
  • Develop qualification plan and perform qualification testing to assure that new designs, materials and process meet the intended requirements when implemented
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities and vendor material specifications to insure compliance with internal and customer requirements
  • Participate in the training and development of Mechanical Designers
  • Prepare for, and participate in, internal or customer product design reviews as required
  • Recommend, evaluate, and take part in product improvement and cost reduction efforts
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of mechanical design standards
  • Comply with and support company policies and programs regarding safety, security, ISO, EEO, OSHA and Anti-Kick Back
  • Perform all other related duties and assignments as assigned
  • Under limited supervision, performs the design, analysis and qualification testing of new or revised designs
  • Performs engineering duties for part of a major project or for projects of moderate complexity
Required Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and balanced decision making on any assigned projects
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Familiar with 3D modeling and FEA packages
  • Ability to learn thermal, structural, and vibration analysis
  • Ability to design experiments, analyze the data and perform structured problem solving
  • Ability to interface with customers, process engineering and work effectively in a cross functional team
  • Must possess strong written communication skills to document technical specifications
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Required Experience:

Education:   Bachelor of Science Degree, Mechanical Engineering.

Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience. Mechanical design experience in electronics manufacturing environment required. Experience with FEA programs (ANSYS, Solidworks Simulation), AutoCAD Inventor or similar programs desired. Previous electronic packaging experience is desired.

Must be eligible to work on defense and other programs subject to ITAR regulations; candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card).
